PLANS SET FOR ASBURY PARK MAYOR’S BALL

Annual ball to be held in mid-October to support Asbury youth and celebrate the city

Asbury Park, N.J. – In coordination with oceanfront developers Asbury Partners and Madison Marquette, the city’s plans are underway for the 2007 Mayor’s Ball, an event that in Asbury Park is celebrated with a different purpose than similar galas elsewhere. All of the proceeds from the event, hosted by Mayor Kevin G. Sanders, will be invested in opportunities for the city’s youth: scholarships, recreation programs, and cultural and educational trips.

"I believe that an investment, in the future of the children of Asbury Park, is the core responsibility of everyone including all governing bodies, residents and businesses,” said Mayor Kevin G. Sanders. “We are very proud that over the last five years, proceeds from the Mayor’s Ball have funded uniforms and equipment for the soccer, basketball, baseball, football and track & field teams for Asbury Park children of all ages as well as scholarships for college- bound high school students.”

“This event is a unique one in the state and is a testament to the priorities of Asbury Park’s leadership,” Larry Fishman, chief operating officer of Asbury Partners, said. “Mayor Sanders and the leaders of Asbury Park realize that the best investment is one that is put back into their city and its youth, and that’s why we were more than willing to be lead sponsors for this event with Madison Marquette.”

The theme of this year’s ball is “Our History to Date,” and will feature a musical act, Totally Soul, and a dance performance by the city’s own Asbury Park Dance Academy. It will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 6:00 at the Berkeley Hotel.

The setting for this year’s ball is particularly special as it will be a chance to celebrate the great strides achieved this year in Asbury Park’s revitalization. The Berkeley Hotel is under new management and undergoing a transformation. Additionally, many of the improvements that occurred this year happened on the nearby boardwalk and oceanfront area. The Paramount Theater underwent a historic rehabilitation this summer and now hosts a variety of live performances. Next door, the former Howard Johnson’s building was converted into the Salt Water Beach Café, a hit restaurant over the summer.

“This summer was just the beginning of great things for Asbury Park,” said Gary Mottola, President of Property Investments for Madison Marquette. “The Mayor’s Ball is a celebration of the city’s history, the exciting turnaround it’s experiencing today and its bright future.”

“There is a different level of excitement for this year’s ball than in years past,” said Dr. Guy McCombs, chairman of the Mayor’s Ball Committee. “The community has seen tangible results this year in the City’s goals for revitalization, and this is their chance to celebrate Asbury Park’s rebirth and provide opportunity for its children.”

The minimum donation for tickets for the event is $125, and there is a special senior rate of $85. For more ticket information, or to purchase them, call Kiki Tomek at 732-502-5721.
