ASBURY OCEANFRONT GETS FINAL TOUCHES TO KICKOFF SUMMER SEASON
Asbury Partners ensures road improvements are ready Memorial Day Weekend
Asbury Park, N.J. – Crews are working hard to make sure the 2007 summer season starts off right along Asbury’s oceanfront. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the final top layer of smooth roadway was laid along Ocean Avenue from Asbury Avenue to 5th Avenue.
“Its exciting to see the final touches being placed on this historic roadway, restoring it to its former glory,” said Larry Fishman, Asbury Partners’ chief operating officer who is overseeing the project. “We could not be happier to see it ready for the start of the summer season.”
The revitalized section of Ocean Avenue, now open to two-way traffic, is a throwback to the way it was in the 1950s during the heyday of Asbury Park. The design change was made to improve traffic flow and create greater access to the beach, the boardwalk and planned retail.
Significant streetscape and landscaping improvements are also being made by local Asbury Park contractors A&H Construction, CIN Construction and Sand and Stone Construction. They include accent pavers along the sidewalk, as well as new streetlights, benches, trash cans, and bike racks.
To make this project possible Asbury Partners contracted with Vaccaro Enterprises LLC, also based in Asbury Park, for the demolition and removal of the four story section of the C-8 building, allowing for the necessary space to accommodate widening of the road.
The roadway’s rough sub-base had been exposed since last fall to accommodate new utilities being installed underground.
Other oceanfront improvements ready for the summer season include the reopening of the Casino Building Arcade, new metal decking for the Arcade roof, repainted pavilions, the Saltwater Café opening in the old Howard Johnson’s, and new entry stairs, planting beds and vehicle drop-off area in the plaza between the Saltwater Café and the Paramount Theatre.
